I've had the same problem as many other movie makers which was finding a good, reliable yet easy-to-use program that could convert my gigantic .avi Fraps files into good quality .wmv files. Another known problem is Sony Vegas and .avi don't seem to always like each other and tend to have problems very easily. VirtualDub is amazing if your Sony Vegas can handle every .avi file (since it reduces file size alot and retains about 95%~ file quality). Having used VirtualDub for a long time and other well-known programs I landed upon Format Factory. With it's clean interface and utilities it's really a must-have program if you pick .wmv over .avi for your Sony Vegas. You can import several files at the same time unlike VirtualDub.
You don't have to fill in the output file names one by one, or set up a specific output folder.
No need to go trough a bunch of settings beforehand.

  • Open FormatFactory 2.60.
  • Go to Options.
  • Check 'Output to source file folder'. Press Ok.
  • On the left under the video tab you will find a list with file types.
  • Pick the one you want your files to be converted to. (For example 'All to WMV').
  • Load in as many clips as you need to. Press Ok.
  • Press Start.

I have a problem with format factory, when I try to convert small files (say...3 Gb) it does it properly but yesterday I tried to convert a video a little larger..(103 Gb), I set everything the way its shown in Mintii's video and start the process, but 13 seconds after that the program shows me that the file is succesfully converted and when I open the new file its only 3 secs long...and the original one is about 7 minutes long. so...did this happend to you guys before?I would reeeeally apreciate some help :) thanks in advance and sorry for my shity english

Never happened to me, my guess is your PC doesn't have enough RAM to process a video that size, what you could do I guess is download CFF Explorer and check a option named: 'App can handle >2 GB processing or something'

But leave that out as a last resort, see what others advice you to do first.

Well I don't really know a lot about computers, but I think 4 Gb of RAM should be fine, nontheless I will download that and see what happens, thanks for the quick response

Any other programs out there you could use?
