Early Frost in Cata Fire Build

Come cata I may run a bit of haste once I hit a sweet spot with crit % and shatter. Seeing as how we need 33% as that sweet spot, and we get base 10-13% from talents, it doesn't seem that hard. Without factoring resilience we can hit 33% fire crit while wearing like 600 haste making shatter a guaranteed crit. Haste will improve all aspect of fire mage life, along side making Early Frost act like R1 Frostbolt like it did in the golden days. This is still in the early phases of though so please correct me if I overlooked anything.

Well, shatter isn't even all that useful for fire mages since frost nova is on a 20-25 sec-ish cooldown but its still a nice guarantee crit burst. Your best bet it to spec into improved cone of cold if you want to be more of a haste fire mage with a lot of shatter bursts.

Yep, I'm looking forward to trying out imp. CoC as well, should be a complete disaster for those melee classes.

That might actually prove to be a very viable spec. Mobility and damage from fire, control and burst from frost. Sounds really good. Missing out on Imp. CS isn't really that big of a deal. Just needs time to get used to.

Actually playing the spec atm. (Only with early frost ofc) and I must say I feel like I'm doing a lot more damage and controlling melee classes a lot better. Its really worth it to put those 2 points into early frost.

I also feel its important for Fire mages to have another school of magic to cast. Regardless of the damage Frostbolt may do, people have become accustomed to interrupting it. And if they happen to be smarter than the average player and don't take the bait, you have a spell you can cast that deals damage/snares and won't be interrupted every 15sec.

Yup, its really funny when other mages start counterspelling my frostbolts. Though one thing I don't like about early frost is that if you start casting the frostbolt, and then you cancel, early frost is gone for another 15 seconds. I really hope blizzard fix that.
